Marquez currently competes for Ducati satellite squad Gresini but will end his four-year stint with the team at the end of the season.
The Spaniard has been signed on a multi-year deal.
It comes as MotoGP prepares for a radical regulations overhaul that includes the reduction in engine capacity from 1000cc to 850cc.
He effectively takes the place of Ducati-bound Pedro Acosta, who will join Marc Marquez.
“We are extremely proud and happy to have secured an exceptional talent like Alex Marquez — the 2025 world championship runner-up — for our project,” said KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer.
“Alex brings not only outstanding skill and race intelligence but also determination and a winning mindset that perfectly matches our DNA.
Take the short survey.
“Together we share a clear objective: to take the KTM RC16 to the next level and fight at the very front of MotoGP.”
KTM’s other signing is current VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio. That will lead Brad Binder out of a ride.
‘Diggia’ has been a Ducati rider since joining the premier class in 2022. He began with Gresini before moving to Valentino Rossi’s eponymous squad in 2024.
Earlier this year, he won at Catalunya amid rumours that he would depart VR46 for KTM.
It’s a bittersweet move for Di Diannantonio, who spoke in an emotional video about the decision.
“You guys have been an incredible team,” said Di Giannantonio.
“You are a crazy team. I’ve never felt this good in a team. You guys gave me everything, all I am now, all the beautiful things that are happening to me are thanks to you.
“I was not this person, I was not this man, I was not this rider, and it’s really thanks to all of you.
“I have to tell you, it’s been three crazy years. I will always carry you in my heart, because if I ever take a step forward, it is really thanks to you.”
The line-up of Marquez and Di Giannantonio represents a reunion of the two riders, who were both at Gresini in 2023.
“Fabio has clearly made a step to become one of the consistent front-running guys in MotoGP,” said Beirer.
“We cannot question his speed and commitment to delivering the best performance.
“He is a strong team player and a good guy, that we know will fit easily into our Red Bull KTM Factory Racing project.
“During our talks we were impressed by how passionate he is to give the maximum on track and off it, and we believe the next chapter together will be exciting and memorable. Welcome Fabio.”
VR46 incumbent Franco Morbidelli looks set to stay with the team into 2027. Nicolo Bulega, who has dominated this year’s World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK), is tipped to replace Di Giannantonio.
